Family Dinner

Last night we did our usual bi-weekly shopping trip, with dinner out.  :)

This time, it was Culvers.  We had a great time, and the babies loved eating frozen custard after their kids meals.  :)

Icy Cream

Last Sunday on our way home from DeWitt, we told the kids that we would be stopping for ice cream!  They were so excited!!!  But, they fell asleep before we got there.  So, Z and I got a couple of ice cream cones and continued to drive home.

About 10 miles away from home, Jack and Ady woke up.  Jack said:  "Where is my icy cream?".  Whoops.

Thankfully we had M&M ice cream cones at home, and as soon as we walked in the door they opened the freezer to enjoy their afternoon treat.

It was a mess, but they had fun....and that is all that matters.  :)

Play Doh!

I have been dreading the day when my children discover Play Doh.  I could just invision this HUGE mess, that I would be stuck cleaning up.

Well, the day for Play Doh came last week.  It was cold, rainy, and the kids wanted to try it.  I gave in.

But, much to my surprise, it was relatively pain-free!  I put a piece of tin-foil as a place-mat in front of them, and then gave each one a cup of Play Doh.

They stayed busy for over an hour, making all sorts of creations.  Ady was more imaginative then Jack, he pretty much just stuck with the cut-outs.  :)

Ady had me help her make a spider!

Jack loved to use the alphabet cut-outs!

Ady made a "castle".

Jack's pepperoni and sausage pizza!

One of Those Days

Today has been one of those days.....

Zach is gone until Friday afternoon (left Wednesday) for work, and we are lost without him.  :(  Daddy is the BEST in the kids' minds, and they are missing him terribly.

This "missing their Daddy" makes for an interesting afternoon.  Running around like crazy, constantly asking when Daddy is going to be home, getting into the Easter candy (UGH!), and well mostly....it is how LOUD they can be!

Just when I had given up hope of surviving the night, Jack did something adorable.  :)  He started quoting "Little Rascals", and said:  "she loves me, she loves me not, she loves me, she loves me not, she LOVES me!".

It reminded me, even if it was only for about 5 minutes, how precious these moments are with my children.  And even though I have a splitting headache, they are just having fun....enjoying their childhood (like they should!).

What Worked For Us

Our baby boy is potty trained!  During the day, that is.  We are still working on night-time.  He doesn't wake up dry, EVER, so that may take a while.

I thought I would share with you our potty training journey.  It was a long process.....but once Jack was ready it went pretty quickly.

About a year ago, we bought a cute little potty.  I let him "play" with it.  That way the potty wasn't a "scary" experience.  We tried at this time to get him to go on the potty.  But, he never did and just made a mess on my floor.

After our initial attempt, I would try every 2-3 weeks or so to get him to go on the potty.  I would offer a variety of rewards: stickers, m&ms, smartees, fruit snacks, matchbox cars, and finally money (this was his motivation!)

On July 14th, we finally fell into a groove.  I decided it was time, and apparently so did he.  I wanted him trained before we moved into our house (Aug. 30th).  I closed all the doors, and only allowed the kiddos to play in the living room for about a week.  I also moved the potty into the living room for quick access.  He didn't (and still doesn't have long) have much warning between when he felt like he had to go and when he goes.  I would also ask him every 10ish minutes if he needed to use the potty, most of the time the answer was no.  I also made sure to not get upset if he did have an accident, I just explained why he needed to go in the potty.

The first day was tough.  Several accidents, crying because he wanted a diaper or didn't want to sit on the potty, but the next day was better.  Just a few whines right away in the morning, and after that it was pretty smooth sailing.

By the 3rd day he was a "pro".  He hasn't had an accident since.  I am so proud.

We always rewarded quickly, and cheered for the little man.  By about day 5, he was going to the potty with out us asking all.the.time.  We have saved a LOT of money on diapers, and I am so happy my little man has "mastered" this task.

Are you potty training?  How is it going?

Oh, How He Has Grown

Here is Jackers....through the years.  :)

11/15/2008

11/15/2009

 11/15/2010 @ 6:36 pm

He had a fabulous birthday, and we are all looking forward to Ady's FIRST birthday tomorrow.  :)

P.S. - I am so going to be birthday-ed out after this week!

2nd Birthday Love

Dear Jackson,

You bring so much love and joy to our lives....you can not even imagine.  You are absolutely perfect, and we couldn't ask for a better son.

You are loving, and my favorite time of day is when you run at me (at full force, I might add) and wrap your little arms around my legs.  :)

Sissy couldn't ask for a better big brother.  The first thing you do every.single.morning is give Sissy her sippy cup....before you even take a sip of your own.  You are so caring!

Your favorite television shows are SuperWhy! and Sid the Science Kid.  You love music, and will often break out some kicking moves.  :)

Your favorite food....hmm.  I have to say, Jack, you are a picky eater.  But, you love:  pretzels, peanut butter sandwiches, whole milk, and oranges.  :)

I look forward each and every day to your wonderful snuggles, and I can't wait to see your smiling face each and every morning.

You are my baby, my love, and help to make our world complete.

Happy Birthday Jack, my precious baby boy!

PS - Stop growing up so fast, Mommy wants this time in our lives to last forever.

The End Is Near

I am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.  I am down to 55 e-mails.  I am getting close!  I feel like so far today I have been making the best progress.  Thank goodness!

You will never guess what I woke up to this morning!  It was (is) disgusting!

Jack was wearing footie pajamas (my favorite pj's by far...they are so stinkin' cute!), which is always great.  But, somehow one of the tabs off his diaper came off!  So, when I went to change him this morning he had poop in between his TOES.  Read it people, between his toes.  Gross!

Anyway, I pulled myself together and cleaned him up but I am just going to toss the pajamas.  First of all, he is almost too big for them.  Secondly, they are covered in poop.  A finally,  Jack is the third child to wear them.  I think that is enough hand-me-down for those jammies.

The thing that got me most about the whole situation was the fact that I totally didn't expect it.  He didn't smell like he had gone #2 (and he normally doesn't wake up with a poopy diaper), those footie jammies were protecting me from the nastiness beneath them.  Yuck!

What are your bowel movement horror stories? :)

Blog Awards

Sara, the sweet woman over at 8aplenty, has given me a blog award!  YEAH!

I love blog awards, and she was so sweet to think of me.   :)

(These will also be located under the "Blog Love" tab!)

Do you know what I love best about blog awards?  It is that you get to pass them on to blogs you LOVE to read!  :)

You are suppost to pick 15 blogs, but I haven't recently discovered 15 blogs...oops!  So, I thought I would share with you 9 of my most recent favorites.  :)

There are a couple rules to accepting this award:
  • Thank and link back to the person who gave you the award.
  • Share 7 things about yourself.
  • Pass this on to 15 (or 9 *grin*) other great bloggers you recently discovered.
  • Contact the selected bloggers and tell them about their award.
Hmm....7 things about me.  *Taps Fingers*  These are always so difficult to come up with.  :)
  • I once dated a man 27 years my senior.
  • I am addicted to "The Real Housewives of ....." anywhere.  Serious drama!  I will say that I don't care for Atlanta, but I haven't really given it much of a chance.
  • My favorite movie(s) is "Father of the Bride", both 1 and 2!
  • I once had a dream that The Teenager will marry a blonde wearing a blue shirt, and I am now convinced it will come true and we will be the best of friends.  HAHA!
  • I HATE Thomas the Train.  I hope Jack (or Ady) never starts to like him, because I will go NUTS!
  • I wish I was more crafty, and I desperately want to learn how to decorate ADORABLE cupcakes.  :)
  • We will be ordering my new computer this week (I have been without one since MAY!), and I couldn't be more excited.  It is going to be red.  :)
Well, it looks like that is all for me.  :)  Hope you are having a wonderful Wednesday.  And thank you again Sara!

Our Weekend

Oh my goodness.  We had an interesting weekend.

We left Saturday afternoon to head to Peoria, IL to stay at Embassy Suites (a hotel which we normally LOVE), but as soon as we got there my "mini vacation buzz" ended.

We checked in and received our room keys....proceeded up the elevator (which freaked Jack out!) to our room and slid the little key in the slot.  The second I opened the door I was overwhelmed by the smell of cigarette smoke.  YUCK!  I don't have a problem with people smoking, however if it directly effects me I will let you know!

So, I called down to the front desk.  I waited on hold for more than 10 minutes just to talk to someone who didn't know ANYTHING, so I asked to speak with the manager.  While waiting to speak with the manager Z walks in and asks if I changed Jack or Ady's diaper.  I said, "no I haven't"....then he said "well, let them know there is a dirty diaper in one of the trash cans."  SICK!  That is totally gross.  How hard is it to empty the trash can?

Anyway the manager, finally, came on the line (another 5-10 minutes).  I told him about the dirty diaper and smoke filled room.  He apologized profusely, especially for the diaper, and offered to switch our rooms.  Well duh!  He also gave us a $25 gift certificate to the cafe downstairs, something we will never use.

Needless to say, I will be giving them a call this afternoon (I should have done it yesterday, but I didn't feel up to it).  Hopefully we can get this situation resolved.

Jack

Ugh, anyway.  Overall it was a nice weekend.  We enjoyed spending time with Lauren and The Teenager, and the kids LOVED swimming.  :)

We left the hotel Sunday at about 11am.  We drove for a little bit, and I stopped to get a sandwich at Subway so I could have something to eat before I started my 24-hour fast before my colonoscopy.

The prep for the colonoscopy wasn't as bad as I imagined, and neither was the procedure....but, the cramps that followed were awful!  I was crying in the car because they were so bad.  So, I googled some ways to help with the cramping (they pump you full of air and this causes you to feel bloated and crampy).  I drank some warm beverages (apple cider and hot chocolate) per their instruction, and it seemed to help.  Thank goodness!

They discovered one polyp (which they removed and sent over for a biopsy) and one hemorrhoid, and I have an appointment next week to discus in more detail the results.  We shall see.

Anyway, how was your weekend?  Hope all is well!

Make Your Own!

Yesterday was the first time one of my kids needed an ice pack.

Madelyn accidentally shut Jack's fingers in their bedroom door.  It was not pleasant.  Jack was in pain, and Ady didn't understand what she did wrong.  Anyway, Jack needed an ice pack.  However I didn't really have one that would work for his tiny little fingers.  I had frozen veggies, and solid ice packs, but no frozen gel packs.

So, I started to brainstorm ideas on what to use.  And then it hit me.  Baby Oil Gel.  HAHA!  Don't ask me how I thought of it, but I did.

Our pediatrician suggested we get some for Ady's cradle cap as a new baby, and we had nearly an entire bottle left.  So, last night I put the tube of baby oil gel in the freezer and waited for it to harden up, but it never did.  :)

Thus my frozen gel packs.  As you can see (below) I made them child-sized, perfect for when my precious little ones get a boo-boo.  :)

This is what you will need (the food color is optional, and doesn't work out the best....do you have any suggestions for dyeing the gel?)

I then poured the gel into the sandwich bag.

Then, I added the blue food coloring to the gel.

I mixed the food coloring in, and this is what I got!

Red, white, and blue....you know, because we are patriotic.   :)

Is this the best solution for a ice pack, umm...no.  Probably not.  But, out of need comes creativity.

What solutions to problems have you come up with?  Are you going to make your own freezer gel packs?

Adorable Things!

Man, Jack has been SUPER cute over the last few days.  He is so sweet.

He told me, for the first time, this morning:  "Read Please".  He wanted me to read him his Bernstein Bears book for the millionth time.  I hate that book, it is boring....lol.  But, he loves it!

I was going to the bathroom a few minutes ago, and he pushed open the door and started exploring the toilet paper.  I was explaining to him that once he started using the big boy potty he would use toilet paper, and not baby wipes.  Well....he ran out of the room after my explanation.  I figured he was going off to play with one of his toys....but, about a minute later he bursts back through the door....baby wipes in hand.  It was hysterical.  Thanks for making sure Mama has a clean bum.  HAHA!

Jacker's is ALWAYS helpful.  He will gives sissy a bottle, blanket, or whatever else she might be "needing".  He really is an awesome big brother.  :)

Nap & Paint Struggles

Man, it was such a struggle to get Jackson down for a nap today.  I couldn't believe it.  I tried for 4 hours, then he finally fell asleep.  Well, I guess it wasn't exactly 4 hours....but I have been trying since noon and he only just fell asleep.

I tried his normal routine, didn't work.  I tried lying in bed with him, didn't work.  Tried popping in a movie, didn't work.  I tried a pack n' play, didn't work.  I tried rocking him, didn't work.  So, back in the pack n' play he went because I needed to get some stuff done before sissy woke up....and guess what?  He fell asleep.  Little booger.

At what age did your child(ren) stop taking a regular nap?  My mom said that my little brother stopped at around 16 months.  But, I think that is just too darn early!

Painting our apartment last weekend was hard work.  It took FOREVER!  Well, I guess not forever, we did finish it up in 2 days....but, it was a long 2 days.  We started painting the kitchen and bathroom while the babies were sleeping (nap and bed time) then, my Mom took them for the day on Sunday so we could do the living room and their bedroom.

It looks great, and I might post pictures.....you know, whenever I get around to it.

Do you know what I just realized?  I miss Shania Twain songs.  Like seriously.  I am gonna have to dig out her cd, blow off the dust (because, really, who uses cd's anymore), and pop it into the dvd player.  I have no idea what made me just think of that....but, now I have "Man, I feel like a woman" stuck in my head.  Thanks Shania!

Can you believe Lindsay Lohan violated her probation?  Well, I guess I can believe it...but, I never expected it to be so soon after being released from rehab/jail.  What is she thinking?!?!

Well, I guess that is about all I have.  Not much planned for the weekend, other than a family reunion (which I am not really looking forward to).  Hopefully I can get some good snuggles in with my babies over the next few days, they are growing up too quickly.

I hope that you have a fabulous weekend!

Stream of Consciousness

We have plans to purchase some new items over the next couple of months, and I am excited!  My husband and I do not believe in acquiring debt, so everything we will purchase (with the exception of a house, which is not happening any time soon) will be done so with cash.  One of the exciting things I am looking forward to is a new couch and coffeetable!  Our couch has some "technical difficulties", and we have been wanting to replace it for several months.  And we currently don't have a coffeetable, so we are looking forward to picking one out.  :)

We are thinking about getting a sectional, but we will just have to see what is on sale and what we like around the time we are looking to purchase.  Based on our current trend of saving, we should be able to purchase our new couch after the first of the year.  :)

And last, but certainly not least.  We are seriously considering the purchase of a van.  Yep, that's right.  I will be getting a "mom-mobile".  I am even more excited about this than the couch and coffeetable!  I can't wait for the ample room, and the possibility of having more than just Z, the kids, and myself.

Working and saving money for the purchases you want/need is hard, but so rewarding.  I am glad we have had to learn patience over the past several years, it makes the item(s) that you buy that much more special.

Jack and Ady have been extra sweet over the last few days.  I love it!  I am totally digging the baby snuggles, and the funny expressions/attempt at words.  It is seriously adorable.

Here is a video of Jackers from yesterday.  He is super cute!

I will be doing another review for CSN Stores coming up in the next few weeks.  I am so excited!  I love working with this company.  They are fabulous, and have anything and everything you could want or need.  If you haven't checked them out, please do!  It is totally worth your time.

The Long Weekend

This Labor Day weekend wasn't much of a vacation for us.

Z worked both Saturday and Monday (yeah for overtime!), which meant I was home with our kiddos....doing my normal everyday stuff.

We did get to enjoy our evenings though.  We rented 2 movies from Redbox:  When In Rome, and The Bounty Hunter.  Both of which are great movies, however my favorite was When In Rome.  It is a super cute, and classic, chick flick.  Totally up my alley.

Anyway, we had a family reunion at a park across the river for Zach's side of the family.  Our kids had a pretty good time, however they were exhausted by the early afternoon.  Jack hadn't fallen asleep until 1am the night before (yes, I know.  He is crazy.  I have no idea what is going on with his sleep schedule.), and they had to be woken up in order to get to the reunion on time.  They both did really well for being so exhausted.

What did you and your family do over the holiday weekend?  Did you get an opportunity to relax?  I hope so!

Chicago Bears

Remember the other day when I mentioned I was going to try and fit a "photo shoot" in with my kiddos?

Well, I was able to snap a few pictures.  Do you know how hard it is to get two babies.....21 months and 9 months, to sit still long enough to get a good picture?  I think that task is nearly impossible.  And, if you can do it (without using photoshop!) let me know and I will let you photograph my kids.   :)  They really are cute subjects, no?

Man.  I love my kids more and more every. single. day.  They are truly my world, and have brought so much joy and meaning to my life.  I hope you enjoy seeing their smiling faces as much as I do!  :)

PS - Sorry some of the photos are cut off.  I didn't want to go back in a adjust each one, so you will just have to deal with it.  :)  What can I say, I am lazy.  ;o)
